Position Description:

Acumen India is hiring a Portfolio Associate who will play a key role in growing and managing Acumen’s portfolio in India. You will work closely with the Portfolio team to identify, analyze and structure prospective investments as well as provide ongoing management support to existing portfolio companies. The Portfolio Associate at minimum is expected to:

Identify, cultivate and execute a pipeline of new investment opportunities

  • Build an exhaustive network of relationships (including investor, advisory, corporate, entrepreneur, think-tanks NGO, academic, policy) to identify and source new pipeline opportunities for Acumen India
  • Evaluate investment opportunities by conducting evaluations, analyses and thorough due diligence; support managers in closing of transactions
  • Prepare, present and maintain detailed and compelling investment documentation for Acumen’s Investment Committee and Board of Directors

Develop and Implement a post investment management

  • Support relationship managers for Acumen India in managing existing investments, monitoring company performance and developing support  strategies as required
  • Design and evaluate key metrics to measure the social and financial returns on investments

Support strategic projects that meet Acumen objectives    

  • Support in researching new sector/ sub-sector areas for investment consideration and building out investment theses
  • Support senior management as needed, which may include helping with internal document, engaging with Acumen stakeholders

Qualifications and Characteristics:

  • 2-4 years of relevant work experience. Experience in management consulting, investment banking or private equity/venture capital is required. Understanding of early stage businesses and entrepreneurs is a plus
  • Bachelor's Degree is required and Masters is preferred
  • Strong financial and business analysis skills as demonstrated by prior experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to present arguments and analysis in a clear and succinct manner to Acumen management, partners and investees
  • Dedication to working within the social sector; strong willingness to affect change with an understanding of challenges often encountered
  • Must be authorized to work in India
